My visits to The People's Republic of China convinced me of the cost benefits of alternative therapies. Therefore, having obtained Cabinet approval I created W.H.O. Fellowships for our medical consultants to study alternative therapies in China. Also, approval is given for the teaching and certification being conducted at the Colombo South Government General Hospital, Kalubowila.

The Open International University, established under the aegis of the United Nations Alma Ata Declaration is an approved institution. However, Government funds are not allocated, as it is an international organization. All activities, therefore, may be privately funded, It may function as an international body and bring valuable foreign exchange to Sri Lanka.

A foundation stone for a separate building will be laid at a suitable date. Treasury approval is sought for the creation of the sub-head in the estimates. I Wish this institution all success.
